Artist Immersion

Learning oil painting while emulating the life of an artist in Torre Alfina, Italy

Veni. Vedi. Amavi
I came. I saw. I loved.

This was a two-week experience designed to learn and understand the techniques of oil painting while also studying the culture and landscapes of Italy. We lived on a farm named Pulicaro, an organic farm that was self sustained on the food that they produced. While the trip was for credit, it completely changed my perspective on the way that I choose to live. All of our painting was done en plein air, meaning that we painted the landscapes from life out in the environment, rather than from a picture. That was something that I had never done before, and it taught me patience, and it also taught me to really observe the environment around me. Not only that, but the Italian culture is vastly different from the way in which we live in the United States.
